Top tips to saving time (and money) when it comes to your next build!
Thinking about a home extension or working with a custom home builder (bonus points if its with SSR Projects 😉)? Building and renovating can be stressful and overwhelming – we get it. Theres so much to process and many decisions to make along the way.
While it is important that you spend the time researching and planning your project, we’re here to help with our top 5 tips to saving time and money when it comes to your next build.
Think about using existing plumbing (where possible)
Yes, you might want to move your shower, bath or toilet to a different area, but this will cost you not only money, but time. We recommend talking to your Sydney home builder, draftsman/ architect and of course your plumber to see how you can make some cost savings when it comes to planning out your bathroom layout.
Organise your electrical work before your build/ reno begins
Want a fancy feature light or wall light? Its no surprise that having this kind of detail planned out from the beginning means that you can arrange to have all the wiring in place from the start. This is why we recommend speaking to your electrician (and builder) to make sure that all the correct wiring can be in place before you start your build.
Collaborate, Collaborate, Collaborate
Make sure that you collaborate between your designer/ architect, builder, and other trades so that they are all on the same page. Clear communication from the start will help keep the project on track and eliminate potential issues and costs down the track.
Have a schedule
Finishing touches are often the last thing you think about when it comes to your build, when in fact you need to think about these earlier than you think. It’s important to make sure that all your finishing touches align with your trades schedules to make sure that you have the right product/ fitting/ styling on hand for when your trade is onsite and ready to install it.
Having these out of alignment might mean you need to have a trade come back to install the light fitting and as you will know… this will mean more money (and time). So we recommend sitting down with your renovation builder or interior designer to work through a schedule.
Consider your materials
Yes there comes a point where you need to balance the cost of materials with the design aesthetic you are going for, but considering the materials you use in your build from the get go, can help cut down costs and ensure you are organised with enough materials onsite to get the job done. With delays and stock shortages in the building industry this can also ensure that you don’t have any issues or delays in completing your project.
